DERBY CATHEDRAL QUARTER It's just been announced that footfall in the Derby Cathedral Quarter has increased by 15%. There had been a slump in trade following the opening of the Westfield shopping centre on the other side of the city. Why is this such pleasing news for me? Because I was the official photographer in the drive to boost publicity for the Cathedral Quarter. In the slide show opposite, you will see two of my photos especially taken for the Cathedral Quarter's recent advertising campaign. My images were included in a major new Directory of the Cathedral Quarter and in all their advertising. BOOK... ER... PRIZE! I have just seen three of my images turned into book covers, thanks to successfully submitting my pics to the Trevillion fine Art Image Library. All three images can be seen in the slide show to your right. The first image - of Tuscan gates - is appropriately going on the cover of an Italian book entitled La Vedova Nera, which translates as black widow spider. There is NO spider of any sort dangling from these gates so I can only assume it's a novel where gates carry some symbolism! I'm hoping to get a copy of the book soon to reveal more. The book that is using my image of a boat captured at dawn in Ullswater confuses me even more as the book is entitled Romans, the author being a certain N.T. Rights. The third image to be used is much more straightforward. I took a picture of a hillside folly in Derbyshire that has well and truly gone to seed. Converted to something akin to infrared black & white (via the computer), I thought it would make an ideal image for a haunted house horror or something similar. So it has proved: the publisher who bought it is using it for a book entitled In the Dead of Night by Carol Smith. If you look at the slide show opposite, you'll see the original photo, the manipulated one and then, fascinatingly, the final book cover - digitally altered yet further, but quite appealing, I feel (love the glow in the window).
