DERWENT VALLEY PROJECT

I am delighted to tell you that at last a cherished project of mine is complete: the first ever photo book of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. The book was published on November 24th.

Published by the Arkwright Society, this is a 228-page hardback which includes nearly 500 images, with over 100 images occupying either a whole page or double page, and over 200 informative and insightful captions.

Curated into three thematic sections—Industrial Heritage, People & Places, and Wildlife—the book encapsulates the valley's historical significance, its communities, and its rich biodiversity. Accompanied by informative text, it serves as both a visual delight and an invaluable guide for exploring the Derwent Valley.

‘This is a perfect way of celebrating this World Heritage site,’ says Ashley; ‘a photographic record of this site is well overdue, and I’m proud and thrilled that Ian and I and all the invited photographers have been able to highlight the valley’s significant industrial heritage, its diverse people and places and its bountiful wildlife.’

Although the majority of the images are by myself and my fellow-pro Ian Daisley, there are over 120 images by another 50 photographers. We couldn’t be prouder of this publication.
